For MORTLE, we have radically reduced and reinterpreted its classic form: perfectly round, graphic, and with extremely bold lines. The reduced color palette of red, black, and off-white gives the motif its striking look and connects Japanese tradition with modern graphic design.

Traditionally, the Daruma symbolizes perseverance, determination, and the pursuit of a goal. Usually, one eye is filled in when a goal is set – the second follows when it has been achieved. Our Daruma alludes to exactly that with its black and white eye.

The large backprint design sits clearly and compactly on the back and perfectly matches the heavy oversized fit of the shirt.
